2. Client Responsibilities
Clients are responsible for providing accurate information, background materials, photographs, names, dates, references, and other information necessary to complete an assignment.
The client is responsible for ensuring that any information, photographs, trademarks, logos, or other materials supplied to me may legally be used for the requested project.
I reserve the right to request clarification or additional information when necessary to complete an assignment accurately.
3. Historical and Factual Accuracy
Every reasonable effort will be made to research and present historical information accurately. However, historical records may contain conflicting accounts, incomplete documentation, disputed interpretations, or differing scholarly opinions.
Copywriting should not be considered academic, legal, or professional historical advice unless specifically agreed upon in writing.
Where appropriate, clients may be asked to review factual details concerning their organization, venue, historical site, production, or business before publication.
The client remains responsible for approving the final content before publication.
4. Theatre and Performing Arts Content
When writing about theatre productions, performers, venues, plays, musicals, or other performing arts subjects, I will make reasonable efforts to accurately represent information supplied by the client or obtained through research.
Clients are responsible for ensuring that production information, performance schedules, cast information, credits, quotations, photographs, and other supplied materials are accurate and authorized for use.
5. Originality and Copyright
Unless otherwise agreed in writing, original copy created specifically for a client becomes the client’s property upon receipt of full payment.
I retain the right to identify completed work as part of my professional portfolio unless the client requests confidentiality in writing.
Third-party materials, including photographs, quotations, logos, trademarks, archival materials, or other copyrighted content, remain the property of their respective owners.
I do not claim ownership of materials supplied by the client.
6. Portfolio and Promotional Use
Unless otherwise agreed in writing, I may display completed copywriting projects in my portfolio, website, social media, promotional materials, or professional presentations.
If a client requires the project to remain confidential or does not want the work displayed publicly, this must be agreed upon before or during the project.
7. Revisions
The number of revisions included in a project will be agreed upon before work begins.
Reasonable revisions intended to correct errors or bring the work in line with the original project requirements may be included in the agreed fee.
Requests that substantially change the original assignment, require significant additional research, or introduce new material may be subject to additional charges.
8. Fees and Payment
Project fees, deposits, payment schedules, and payment methods will be established before work begins.
Unless otherwise agreed, work may not begin until any required deposit or initial payment has been received.
Final files or completed deliverables may be withheld until the agreed balance has been paid in full.
Late payments may result in suspension of services.
9. Cancellations
A client may cancel a project by contacting me in writing.
If substantial work has already been completed, the client may be responsible for payment for the work performed up to the cancellation date.
Any deposit or advance payment will be handled according to the terms agreed upon for the individual project.
10. Deadlines
I will make reasonable efforts to meet agreed deadlines.
Deadlines may be affected by delayed client responses, missing information, additional revision requests, technical problems, or circumstances outside my reasonable control.
Clients are encouraged to provide requested materials and feedback promptly.
11. Research and Sources
Research may involve books, archival materials, historical organizations, museums, public records, websites, interviews, and other sources.
Research is intended to support the creation of engaging and informative copy. It does not guarantee that every historical interpretation will be universally accepted.
Where clients require formal citations, footnotes, bibliographies, or academic research standards, those requirements should be discussed before the project begins.
